Slow’s Bar-B-Q presents Bourbon Country and The Kentucky Bourbon Trail
“Let's enjoy a glass of good Kentucky Bourbon"
October 22-24 , 2010
Friday, October 22
Morning departure from the Detroit area in our private coach en-route to Bardstown, Kentucky, the undisputed capital of Bourbon. While we leisurely head south to Kentucky, lunch will be a park-side BBQ feast compliments of Slow’s and created by their extraordinary chefs. Upon afternoon arrival in Bardstown, check into our hotel, get settled and relax. This evening is a special treat at the Chapeze House in Bardstown, a Federalist Mansion built between 1789-1803. Here, our own Colonel Michael Masters and his wife Margaret Sue guide us through a unique tasting of Bourbons, introducing us to all the flavors and nuances of this most American beverage.
Dinner this evening is at the Chapeze House, following our tasting. Margaret Sue is “The Kentucky Hostess” and President of The Kentucky Bourbon Cooking School; while the Colonel is the author of “Hospitality Kentucky Style”. They have made numerous television appearances on both the Food Network and the Travel Channel. We are privileged tonight to have these wonderful chefs demonstrate their cooking techniques and also open their home to us for a dining celebration! Beef Tenderloin, Pork Tenderloin, and “down home” chicken are all on the menu. It seems everything includes Bourbon somewhere in the recipe!
Saturday, October 23
After a hearty breakfast we are off to explore the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail. For the true connoisseur of great whiskey, great food and great times, there is only one place that allows you a sensual and sensory experience that’s truly unique to America. Only one place where the smooth mellow flavors; the rich traditions and folklore; the food, fun and gentle, relaxed countryside all mingle together to create an experience unlike anything else in the world. Only in Kentucky, Only in Bourbon Country.
Phillip Cooley, our guide extraordinaire, will lead us both morning and afternoon to his favorite distilleries for visits and tastings of this most precious nectar. Lunch will be a welcomed stop along the way at an authentic Kentucky-style restaurant After a rest, dinner will be in our home village of Bardstown, feasting on even more local delights, of course Bourbon will fit somewhere in the picture!
